As an IoT & Automation Intern, you will work closely with our engineering team to support the design, development, and deployment of IoT and automation solutions, particularly in the context of energy management systems (EMS), smart buildings, and industrial automation. This role provides hands-on exposure to real-world automation systems involving sensors, PLCs, controllers, and IoT platforms.

You will assist in system design, device integration, communication setup, and testing of automation and IoT systems. This internship is ideal for students or fresh graduates who are passionate about industrial automation, IoT technologies, and smart energy systems, and who want to gain practical experience bridging Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT).

You will gain valuable experience working with industry-standard protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, MQTT, and Zigbee, as well as exposure to PLC programming, embedded devices, and real-world system deployments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers in designing IoT and automation systems, including device selection, architecture planning, and system integration.
  • Support deployment and integration of field devices such as sensors, meters, controllers, PLCs, and gateways.
  • Assist in configuring communication between devices using industrial and IoT protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, MQTT, Zigbee, and TCP/IP.
  • Help with testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting IoT and automation systems.
  • Assist in collecting, monitoring, and analyzing operational data from connected systems.
  • Support PLC-based automation tasks, including assisting with program upload, testing, and debugging under supervision.
  • Help develop simple scripts or programs for data acquisition, automation logic, or system integration.
  • Document system architecture, configurations, and implementation procedures.
  • Assist in prototyping and proof-of-concept development for new IoT and automation solutions.
  • Support internal R&D activities related to smart energy, building automation, and industrial IoT systems.

Must Have

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a diploma or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related fields.
  • Basic understanding of IoT and automation concepts.
  • Basic understanding of industrial and IoT communication protocols such as Modbus, MQTT, BACnet, Zigbee, or similar protocols.
  • Basic programming knowledge in at least one language such as Python, C/C++, or JavaScript.
  • Strong willingness to learn and explore new technologies.
  • Logical thinking and problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to read basic electrical diagrams, system diagrams, or technical documentation.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Nice to have

  • Basic understanding of PLC systems and automation logic.
  • Familiarity with PLC programming (any platform such as Siemens, Kinco, Delta, Omron, Mitsubishi, etc.) is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with microcontrollers such as ESP32, Arduino, or similar embedded platforms.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus RTU/TCP, BACnet, or OPC UA.
  • Familiarity with IoT platforms, dashboards, or SCADA systems (ThingsBoard, Node-RED, Ignition, etc.) is an advantage.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts such as IP address, TCP/IP, and serial communication (RS485).
  • Interest in energy management systems, smart buildings, renewable energy, or industrial automation.
  • Experience with Linux environment is a plus.
  • Hands-on project experience (academic or personal projects) related to IoT or automation is an advantage.
